CR Continued Discussion: Voting Rights and Voter Suppression

​Gail Perry and Judy Knight, with Nancy Brown, co-facilitated the virtual Challenging Racism: Continued program Voter Rights/Voter Suppression, on 3/24/21, from 6:30-8:30 PM. About 18 people participated. The focus of the program was to look at the history and current trend of laws intended to restrict access to voting, after the largest voter turnout in modern history.

​Participants were encouraged to watch After Selma, a documentary by Loke Mulhollland, days before the session. During the session participants discussed their reactions to the Mississippi Plan of 1875, the Southern Strategy of the 1960s and 1970s, 2020 voter turnout in the DMV, and constructive actions they can take now to support voting rights and challenge attempts at voter suppression wherever they find it. The discussion was vibrant, participants shared insights, and several experienced new learning on the topic.
